Formation
Do You Want To Perform?
Join the Stanford Ballroom Formation Team! We exist for the fun and beauty of group ballroom dance performance. Our emphasis is on dancing exciting and creative choreography, learning skills and techniques different from those in competitive ballroom, and working together as a team.
Our coaching and choreography are by Stephen Cullip, two-time US Professional International Standard champion, and formerly coach of the US Champion USC Formation Dance Team.
You don’t need to bring a partner, and the team is open to ballroom dancers of all levels of experience. If you’ve never taken a ballroom dance class before, we’ll ask that you enroll in one this quarter year. We will work on one group routine the entire year, adding to the choreography and improving our technique as the year progresses. We encourage you to join in the fall and stay with us for the entire year, but you may join for just one or two quarters if you’re confident you can pick up the choreography. Everyone who dances with us will be given the opportunity to perform at least once.
Practices for the Fall Quarter are in the form of a weekly class, from 8:00-9:00pm on Mondays in Roble Gym, studio 52; attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. We may also hold additional practices on Saturdays, 4:00-5:00pm, at the Ford Center, if it’s necessary in order to be prepared for a performance.
Quarterly class fees are $20 for student members of Stanford Ballroom; $40 for student non-members and nonstudent members; $60 for everyone else.
